Conversation A.D. 33
One: Have you heard the news?
Two: No, what's happened?
One: The good Lord has come down in human form and had himself killed!
Two: To what end?
One: With this act, the Devil is hoodwinked and all humanity saved!
Two: Gosh, that's simply lovely.
- The Sound of Music6
- Not my thing, but done well.
- Grindhouse6
- Dissapointing. This is the first time I've ever been psyched about a QT film and it wasn't nearly as crazy, funny or sexy as I'd hoped it would be. The trailers were better than the films.
- An Inconvenient Truth6
- Like all liberal documentaries there's that portion that's difficult to swallow. In this case it's the "Al Gore commercial" portion that, while I understand that he was trying to demonstrate his personal commitment to this problem, comes across as self-promotion and has a huge potential to alienate and detract from the rest of it.
- Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price6
- Everyone should see this movie. It gets a 6 because it had a lot of dumb shock "facts" in it.
- Smokin' Aces6
- Pretty uneven. Horrible (with a capital H) dialogue. Some really really great scenes that I wish I could put in a better movie.
- Looking for Comedy in the Muslim World6
- Mostly pretty flat, but some good stuff. If you don't love Al, I can't see you liking this movie.
- The Machinist6
- Great score. As guilt movies go, not all that great.
- Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance6
- Almost a 7. I liked it, but the pacing was all wrong for me.
- Marty6
- I'd heard "Great!" and for me it was only OK.
- Cache6
- I feel like a bit of a rube admitting this, but I was really disappointed by the ending. I mean I get it... it's not about the tapes it's about guilt, but still. Bah.
- The Changeling6
- Not as scary as I'd heard, but still good.
- Tom yum goong6
- This felt like a step backwards from Ong Bak. The "Eddie"-style fighter was very fun to watch though.
- Batman Begins6
- Some cheesey stuff, some ok stuff. Overall, not bad for a super hero movie.
- Wedding Crashers6
- Two full points for the Will Farrell part.
- Broken Flowers6
- I enjoyed this. There could have been more development though.
- Million Dollar Baby6
- No where near as bad as I'd expected.
- The Professionals6
- Footlight Parade6
- A film I definitely wouldn't watch on my own, but it was pretty fun with the zingers and the dancing and the FLAVIN!
- Logan's Run6
- Would have been much better with an unhappy ending.
- Enduring Love6
- Had a lot going for it, but the score was awful and it turned to cliche too often.
- The Quiet American6
- Redgrave is good as always, but the film itself was fairly boring.
- The Importance of Being Earnest6
- Margaret Rutherford rules (as always.)
- Trainspotting6
- Well done, but not really my thing.
- War of the Worlds6
- All of the effects were great. The train was a nice touch. Fanning was really good.
- Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence6
- Visually stunning, but something was missing.
- Swimming Pool6
- With a Friend Like Harry...6
- Edgy and weird. Reminicent of Spoorloos.
- Jackie Brown6
- The Hours6
- Well done, but I don't think I got it nor do I think I was the intended audience.
- The Widow of Saint-Pierre6
- Good, but not great. My least favorite Leconte.
- Ray6
- Great story, great performances, fairly lousy movie. I thought Foxx and Warren were great.
- My Cousin Rachel6
- Another film with a horrible first act. Worth seeing.
- Legend6
- I'm giving this a passing grade, but mostly becuase of Tim Curry and his makeup. I watched the "Directors Cut" (which I take with a grain of salt after reading Ridley's comments in the Alien re-release) and didn't know the movie well enough to know the difference. The first act is *awful*.
- Rififi6
- A lot going for it, but uneven and a bit boring.
- The Incredibles6
- Distinctly not "hilarious" as I'd heard, but not bad either.
- Les Triplettes de Belleville6
- I enjoyed this, but I don't think I liked it as much as everyone else seems to.
- Seven Brides for Seven Brothers6
- On the big screen, with a big crowd, it was a lot of fun.
- Moulin Rouge6
- It didn't really grab me like I expected it to.
- Cold Mountain6
- Very well done. Not my cup of tea.
- Kichiku6
- Killer's Kiss6
- Some bad acting, but very worth watching.
- Shaun of the Dead6
- Eeh. Not bad, but light on laughs.
- Bedazzled6
- Some laughs.. got kinda long.
- The Mutations6
- A fun homage/pseudo-remake of Browning's Freaks.
- The Black Swan6
- The Chronicles of Riddick6
- If I was 12, this movie would probably be the best thing ever. Flash Gordon for Generation Y.
- The Bad Seed6
- Hang 'Em High6
- Dawn of the Dead (2004)6
- Better in some ways, not as good in some ways.
- Super Size Me6
- The Sentinel6
- Very strong start, bad ending.
- True Grit6
- Started pretty badly, but got better.
- Zombie6
- Much better than The Beyond, but that may have been because I wasn't paying that much attention to Zombie.
- Duel6
- Don't Look Now6
- The Evil Dead6
- I'd never seen it. II is still my favorite.
- Dead Ringers6
- More creepy twins! A full point of this is for Irons. Best Cronenberg I've seen...(not saying much.)
- The Cell6
- The Other6
- Slow but creepy. A bit EscapeFromWitchMountain-y
- The Glass Menagerie6
- A bit corny, but good performances.
- Unfaithful6
- Surprisingly good performances.
