Conversation A.D. 33
One: Have you heard the news?
Two: No, what's happened?
One: The good Lord has come down in human form and had himself killed!
Two: To what end?
One: With this act, the Devil is hoodwinked and all humanity saved!
Two: Gosh, that's simply lovely.
- Head Trauma4
- An Inconvenient Truth6
- Like all liberal documentaries there's that portion that's difficult to swallow. In this case it's the "Al Gore commercial" portion that, while I understand that he was trying to demonstrate his personal commitment to this problem, comes across as self-promotion and has a huge potential to alienate and detract from the rest of it.
- Miami Vice3
- Holy shit. Did Mann suffer a severe blow to the head or something? Horrible.
- Mission: Impossible III3
- Everything I thought it would be.
- Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price6
- Everyone should see this movie. It gets a 6 because it had a lot of dumb shock "facts" in it.
- 3008
- Best comic book movie EVAR. (I hate comic book movies.)
- Smokin' Aces6
- Pretty uneven. Horrible (with a capital H) dialogue. Some really really great scenes that I wish I could put in a better movie.
- Raw Force4
- The Informer5
- Not much there and way the wrong time to show this film.
- Black Book7
- Carice van Houten is the most perfect woman in the world. Oh and the movie was really good too.
- Knocked Up7
- Really funny and I can only imagine much funnier had I experienced the subject matter in my own life.
- Rocky Balboa3
- I'm tempted to give this a 1 because of the reaction this film received. People loved it and that makes me sad and disappointed. Stallone has opened his bowels into cinema for the last 20 years and now that he's old and has a self-referential-to-the-point-of-remake script he gets a pass? No thanks. It's the same old shit.
- Inherit the Wind7
- It was great to see this on a big screen. It's not an 8 because I think it gets a bit heavy handed and is hardly impartial.
- Once Upon a Girl....2
- Unfunny, in no way erotic... just LONG and boring and stupid.
- Dreamgirls2
- This years Phantom. Unbearable.
- Black Snake Moan4
- Looking for Comedy in the Muslim World6
- Mostly pretty flat, but some good stuff. If you don't love Al, I can't see you liking this movie.
- Word Wars7
- Tenacious D: The Pick of Destiny7
- I was really expecting a dud, but I thought it was pretty damn funny.
- Maniac Cop5
- Fun to see Bruce and Sam, and really not all that horrible all things considered.
- Suspiria5
- The Machinist6
- Great score. As guilt movies go, not all that great.
- The Devil and Daniel Johnston8
- Hard to say if you'd like this if you're not a fan of DJ, but I thought it was great.
- The Brood4
- I wish people would stop asking me to watch Cronenberg movies.
- Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance6
- Almost a 7. I liked it, but the pacing was all wrong for me.
- Marty6
- I'd heard "Great!" and for me it was only OK.
- Inside Man5
- Fun for the first hour and a half and then it completely falls apart when you realize just how stupid the plot is.
- Jeux d'enfants4
- Throw-away story with some Amelie and Wes Anderson wannabe "magic"
- I Heart Huckabees6
- Morgan!5
- Reminded me a lot of The Ruling Class which I also didn't get.
- Metallica: Some Kind of Monster5
- At times I'd laugh out loud at the Spinal Tapian hilarity of the whole thing, but mostly I was just bored. Who gives a shit about these fucking crybabies?
- Cache6
- I feel like a bit of a rube admitting this, but I was really disappointed by the ending. I mean I get it... it's not about the tapes it's about guilt, but still. Bah.
- The Wages Of Fear9
- Incredible. Way more exciting than any summer blockbuster while remaining character-driven and personal. Really amazing.
- A History of Violence5
- A Cronenberg move that I didn't despise is rare indeed.
- Wolf Creek4
- Huge potential that falls totally flat. The begining was great tension and the end was dull dull dull.
- Sarah Silverman: Jesus is Magic7
- I thought all of the stand up was great. Smart, subtle and edgy. I could have lived w/o the songs.
- The Changeling6
- Not as scary as I'd heard, but still good.
- Tom yum goong6
- This felt like a step backwards from Ong Bak. The "Eddie"-style fighter was very fun to watch though.
- Postcards from the Edge5
- I like Fisher, I like Nichols, but this was pretty flat and very very dated.
- Good Night, and Good Luck.6
- Batman Begins6
- Some cheesey stuff, some ok stuff. Overall, not bad for a super hero movie.
- The Squid and the Whale7
- I think this film was very very well done, but I feel like I didn't like it as much as I could have.
- Wedding Crashers6
- Two full points for the Will Farrell part.
- Junebug5
- 2 parts Wes Anderson, 2 parts Napoleon Dynamite, 8 parts still shots. Mix and stir and you get meh.
- The Da Vinci Code3
- Dull dull dull. Cliched and predictable. I haven't read the book nor do I intend to.
- The Boys from Brazil6
- The Andromeda Strain5
- Boring and basically plotless. The only G rated movie I've ever seen with a titty-shot though!
- Broken Flowers6
- I enjoyed this. There could have been more development though.
- Nashville4
- One man's classic film is another man's 2 HOURS and 40 MINUTES of torturous self-indulgent bullshit.
- Persona8
- Nine Lives7
- Serenity5
- Not all bad, but not very good.
- Rock School5
- Kids in the Hall: Same Guys, New Dresses4
- Pretty boring, I'm sad to say.
- The Constant Gardener4
- For some reason, I thought I'd like this. It seemed like they had about 4 pages of script and thought they could make up the rest with loving montages of a character they failed to make me love.
- The Ladykillers5
- Johnson steals, but can't save the show.
